Program description

The Volunteers in Action Program is the new and improved version of the ''Volunteering, it's Cool! Program'' and is a joint initiative of the Youth in Action Centre and Jeunesse Restigouche Youth. This volunteering program encourages young people aged 12-30 to volunteer their time within their community (Restigouche County). The main objective of this valuable program is to help our youth create positive connections in the community while acquiring employability skills, work experience, and establishing a network of resources to assist them in their future!

The Volunteers in Action Program has 4 main components:

1) Youth who register in the program can track their volunteering hours, and those who complete a minimum of 50 hours (from September 1st to August 31st) will be eligible for bursaries that will be randomly drawn among those youth who qualify.

2)The Volunteers in Action Website allows students to track their volunteering hours electronically and search for volunteering opportunities in the Restigouche Region!

3)The Volunteers in Action Program allows local service clubs/organizations/groups to post their volunteering opportunities through our website and will create connections with interested (and qualified based on the criteria requested) youth volunteers.

4)To encourage youth to start (restart or continue) volunteering, the Volunteers in Action Program will also be regularly organizing group volunteering outings, so that young people can volunteer in the community with their peers. Our hope is that by offering group volunteering opportunities, we can help youth overcome the barriers they may face and empower them to become active volunteers.
